vintage Louis XVI Style Chinoiserie Display Case
Cabinet with a pagoda-shaped top, three shelves, black lacquer hand-painted Chinoiserie landscapes and figures, with witty scenes, very rare in French furniture. Although Chinoiserie furniture was first designed and made in England in the second half of the eighteenth century, the French Chinoiserie was almost always concerned with surface decorative effects. The gilded oriental scenes on three panels are based on an 18th-century French original. This work has previously appeared in a Christie's auction.
